Kwaan Bear IT Solutions (KBITS) has immediate openings for a Cyber Defense Network and Operating Systems Support Specialist (SME) to join our team at Fort Belvoir, VA.
Position Overview The Cyber Defense Network and Operating Systems Support Specialist (SME) is a highly skilled, middle-level engineer responsible for implementing, maintaining, and supporting critical cyber defense infrastructure. This role requires significant Linux environment administration experience, cybersecurity infrastructure deployment and sustainment expertise, and proficiency in automating operations and maintenance tasks.
You will play a key role in protecting critical cyber defense resources, implementing security frameworks, and ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of Army cyber defense systems.
Responsibilities - Install, configure, maintain, back up, and restore cyber defense systems.
- Identify, prioritize, and coordinate the protection of critical cyber defense infrastructure and key resources.
- Build, install, configure, and test dedicated cyber defense hardware.
- Review and recommend automation concepts related to defensive cyber systems, including:
- Playbooks, roles, inventory management.
- User, team, and role-based access control configuration.
- Development workflow and REST API integration.
- Coordinate the installation and configuration of reference automation instances, including:
- Configuring and validating a three-node automation cluster with an external database.
- Providing options to configure PostgreSQL slave nodes.
- Integrating with Active Directory or single sign-on tools.
- Importing content from supported version control systems.
- Creating base-level RBAC configurations.
- Create content for Army defensive cyber systems and automation use cases, including:
- Installing and configuring software packages and applications.
- Creating virtual infrastructure in public/private cloud environments.
- Configuring and maintaining organizational “standard builds.”
Required Skills & Qualifications - 8+ years of relevant experience.
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, with a strong background in defensive cyber systems or cybersecurity.
- Advanced Linux-based environment administration experience.
- Proficiency in automation, scripting, and software deployment in cyber environments.
- Familiarity with SIEMs, Oracle/SQL-based platforms, and Python (highly desirable).
- Experience integrating third-party components, developing new custom capabilities, and automating cyber operations.
Preferred Certifications - Red Hat Certifications:
- Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
- Specialist in Virtualization or Containerization
- Specialist in Security: Network Services
- OpenShift Administration
- VMware Certifications
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Associate
